TWO MORE MONTHS
whew! it feels good to be back to blogging y’all. my life here in massachusetts has been crazy, but now that i’m preparing to transition into my next life stage, i felt pulled back towards this blog. there are so many things that i need to write and get out there — about the last 9 months that i’ve spent volunteering, about my next step, and about how i’ve been changed. so here’s a quick intro about what i’ve been up to lately.
i’m currently participating in the united church of christ’s young adult service community (yasc) program. it’s an 11 months program that’s centered around learning to live in community: with those in your household, those with whom you worship, and those whom you serve. getting out of my comfort zone and living in intentional community has changed me in a multitude of ways, many of which i never would have expected. i have learned and experienced so much during my 9 months here thus far in westford, massachusetts and i couldn’t be more thrilled with this growth.
the basic set up of the program is that you live with other yasc interns and together you serve a local ucc congregation as well as local non-profits, and the church provides housing and a living stipend. where i live, my roommate and i both serve at first parish church united in westford (which is conveniently located right across the street from our apartment, pictured above) and i also serve monday through thursday, 9-5, at new england forestry foundation while miriam serves at habitat for humanity. this program builds incredible community in so many ways — it honestly takes my breath away sometimes.
now that i only have two months left in the yasc program, i’ve understandably becoming nostalgic about everything i know i will soon be leaving behind. i’m also reflecting on my time here and how i have been altered and transformed during my time here. you’ll be hearing more about that soon.
for now, though, i just wanted to let everyone know that i’m happy, healthy, and thriving here in massachusetts. more to come soon. i promise!!
